-Home-

My home is a fortress
Stone bricks carved out with care through time and experience
Adorned with thriving beauty fueled by soft sunlight
Moss and vines humble and caress the hard exterior.
Though impervious, there is tenderness in the mortar
And understanding in the rebar so that
As hellish storm clouds rein high in the distance,
Unflinching walls around me only sway like grass in the breeze.
Dancing edifice to songs hummed by a duet of wind and mahogany floorboards.
Such a foundation of peace duplicates in my mind,
Encompassing my thoughts with an armor I’ve never felt before.
Safety glows through the windows as subtle as illuminated dust
Flow through the air and land on every surface within.
A hearth as warm as a heartbeat steadies mine and I vow to always reciprocate.
Fortress, Castle,  Kingdom in which I am both queen and servant...
On sunny days when for no reason the roof cries,
Hours spent patching the holes feel like only minutes.
Beads hung where forgotten light hits cast rainbows on fading walls like new paint
Fasten art in the hallway that sighs with insecurity so that it feels beautiful again.
Overloaded circuits plunge rooms into a war of darkness and monstrous shadows,
Eviscerated by the single strike of a match to a vanilla candle.
Spend entire afternoons freeing the attic from unnecessary weight and clutter
Clean out the closets, make it easy to breathe again - wooden studs release and settle into place
Like them, surround me and I’ll help to hold you up. This is what you deserve.
Strong, steady, towering - my home is a fortress
My home is you.
